Mpho Pholo also known as 37Mph is a South African award-winning music composer and director on the Coke Studio Africa 4 house band. He has produced a number of renowned artistes as well composed themes songs for television and films such as Blitz Patrollie. Among his notable productions is working with Thatch Music in Nigeria with celebrated acts such as Flavour (Nigeria) and Salif Keita (Mali).
His work has earned him recognition and several awards like for the Producer of the Year and Song of the year for the chart-topping hit song Do it Like I Can at the inaugural South African Hip Hop Awards. Mpho has proven his expertise time and again by being the music director at the Cape Town International Jazz Festival, the Kendrick Lamar South African Tour as well as Big Sean’s tour in 2014.
His masterful knowledge in the commercial and technical aspect of the music business has caught the attention of music hardware and software manufacturers. He is currently the South African ambassador for the music software package, Steinberg Cubase, having been appointed in 2010. In 2012 hardware manufacturer Akai Prod artists also named him their brand ambassador.
37Mph says, “The reason I create music is to express emotions in the purest sense. Just as people are multi-faceted, some of the music I create may be dance music, some is deep, soulful and causes you think, other titles might make you cry, and some music will bring you joy.” On Coke Studio Africa 4, he will be working with more than thirty artistes and six music producers. They include: Trey Songz (USA) Rema Namakula (Uganda), Vanessa Mdee (Tanzania), Nyashinski (Kenya), Yemi Alade (Nigeria), Stonebwoy (Ghana), Serge Beynaud (Ivory Coast), Emtee (South Africa), Neyma (Mozambique), Lij Michael (Ethiopia) and the South African producer Maphorisa.
