Burna Boy who’s birth name is Damini Ogulu was a Media Communications and Culture student before leaving to pursue music professionally in 2010. He first released two mix tapes, which he prefers as they are a lot more free compared to albums. The twenty three year old vocalist officially broke into the music industry when he released his first single ‘Freedom Freestyle’ in October 2010 and led him to being signed by Aristokrat records.

In mid-2011, Burna Boy released ‘Burn Notice’, a 13-track mix tape which included Wombolombo Somtin’ with a hook from Angelique Kidjo. In November 2011, he released ‘Burn Identity’, another 13 track mix tape which included his own version of Mavado’s Starboy and several other dancehall influenced songs like Summer Time and Ice Cream Man, showing a core main stream quality.

When he released his mid-tempo Summer Jam in June 2012, it created quite a buzz in the media sphere, making a crossover from Port Hacourt to the Lagos music scene. He followed this up with Pan African hits such as Tonight, Run My Race and Yawa Dey, after which he released the 19 track album L.I.F.E in August 2013.

He has also featured on songs with Sarkodie and AKA (Special Someone) and many other notable artists. Burna Boy oozes versatility and an unmatchable unique sound. He has headlined various shows across the African continent and internationally.
